My dad called yesterday afternoon to let me know that they had to put our sweet golden retriever to sleep after 13 years! It wasn't an unexpected call, she has been going down hill for the past few months, but it still was so shocking! Every time we have gone to California I was sure it was the last time I would see her...and then we would go again and Emmie would still be alive! I somehow managed to make it almost through the whole phone conversation without crying, until he was saying goodbye! It all kind of hit!
We got Emmie for Christmas when I was 15. She was so little and so sweet! My sister Whitney did the cutest pictures from her whole life here And my mom reminded us of lots of stories of having a dog for so long, here! I am glad they did all the hard work, because as soon as I start thinking about it I get all teary-eyed. Emma was really sweet yesterday when I was crying and brought me her new golden retriever stuffed animal so I could hold it since it was the same color as Emmie.

Sweet Emmie
Emmie will be missed by our family so much! It won't seem real until I go home and she isn't there to bark and cry that we are home! Good-bye sweet Emmie, we will miss you!

Good for you, I couldn't hold it together from the time dad said they had just come fromt he vet. Emma is so sweet!
So sad...I just read your mom's post. I still miss Dutchess...and it's been over 5 years, I think since she died. Your house won't be the same without Emmie!
I guess this is one of those life experiences that change you forever. I just think it is so great that she was such a part of your family. Some people never experience that. We loved Emmie too, and we are so sad with you! Such a beautiful dog who has left such sweet memories.
It's sad to see her go. I remember how upset I was when you lost her when she was a puppy. I read your mom's post and started to have tears well up in my eyes.
I'm sorry, Mandy. That stinks. Our dog is also 13 yrs old and we all keep thinking his time is coming any day. It will be sad to enter the house without the excitement that first time. Sorry.
Sorry about your dog. That can be so hard. They are part of the family. Hope you're feeling better!
