Last night for FHE we decided to go and purchase some fish, Emma has been begging us for a pet. She really wanted a Guinea Pig but we decided that would be hard to move across the country! So we headed off to the pet store and bought two goldfish. Which Emma immediately named Mercy and Lola (I am not sure where Mercy came from, but Lola is from a cartoon on Disney called Charlie and Lola). Well in our excitement of getting the fish home and in their new tank, before Emma went to bed, since it was already after 8, we didn't follow directions very well! Actually Jon did say that you have to put the bag of fish in the tank and let the water temperture equalize, I really didn't think that was too important! So we dumped the fish in the tank! Pretty much immediately we could tell that they weren't going to last long. Especially Mercy, who was already on her side at the top, trying to swim down, but she kept floating back up. She also seemed to be twitching. I am totally laughing now, but I was horrified that the new fish were going to die! We told Emma that the fish were looking pretty sick and we would have to see how they were in the morning. I took her to bed, where her whole prayer was about healthy fish!
Jon and I didn't have to wait long to see that the fish were definately not healthy! By 9:30 Mercy was gone! And at 10:00 Lola followed. We had the fish for almost 2 hours! I kept sending frantic text messages to my Mom, what on earth were we going to tell Emma in the moring! I made Jon flush the fish down the toilet, because I could just see me trying to get them out in the morning with Emma, her crying and me being totally grossed out! Not a good idea!
When Emma woke up I told her I had some bad news, that her fish had been too sick and they didn't make it (thankfully she really didn't ask what that meant). I also quickly added that we could go to the pet store today and get a new fish, and maybe a pink one. I think we will try a beta fish, I've heard they are a little stronger! She seems to think that is a great idea...now we just have to hope that the new fish will survive!

She named it Mercy after Mercy Watson, the pig who loves hot buttered toast, silly. Grammy knows these things!!
Mandy! You caught the blogging bug! The fish story totally makes me laugh! How sad! Good luck with the beta fish!
It's about time that you join in on the fun! I can't wait to keep tabs on you this way! We were tempted to get fish a couple of weeks ago with the kids while at the pet shop, but opted to watch the dogs being groomed. Now that I hear your story, I am glad we didn't make the purchase. J/K-that will be so fun for Emma! Good luck on finding a really healthy fish!
Jon, Mandy and Emma,
When we read the news, we were shocked. In fact, Peyton Tate and Toby are still having a hard time understanding why it was Mercy and Lola's time to go. At this time we extend our deepest sympathy and condolence's for your loss and misfortune at this time. May you be blessed in these difficult times.
OK...first i must tell you that is a great story, very unfortunate, but great! Secondly I must comment on Emma's side ponytail. Are we trying to bring back the 80's?? She is so adorable and my gosh she is so big! It has been far too long. I hope all of you are doing great and hope to maybe even see ya'll soon! That would be fun. Maybe even take Jon out golfing!
